QuickBooks Tip

Verify Data

Do you move accounts around in your Chart of Accounts?  Do you delete transactions from time to time?  It is a good idea to verify your data in general and especially if you do these things.

Don't

forget to

backup your data.

To verify data, go to File, Utilities, then Verify Data.  If you receive the message "QuickBooks detected no problems with your data", then all is well.  However, if a problem was found, then you will need to rebuild your data.  To do this, go to File, Utilities, then Rebuild Data.  You will

be asked to backup your data first.  Do not exit this utility because it will initiate the backup, and then proceed through the rebuild.  When the rebuild is finished, verify the data again.  Hopefully this process will have corrected any problems.  If you still get an error, give us a call and we will be happy to help you.

Note:  Some versions of QuickBooks require all the windows within QuickBooks to be closed.  If the Verify Data menu selection is "grayed" out, close all the QuickBooks windows including the navigators.  Then try the menu selection again.
